ADMK Govt's lack of initiatives to set up new power projects during their regime( 2001-06 ) was the main reason for the power crisis in the State during the DMK regime from 2006-2011.
DMK Government allotted fund to establish 11 new power generation projects during 1996-2001 to generate 1,200 MW of electricity.
This saved the State from power crisis from 2001 to 2006.
DMK Government allotted fund to establish 11 new power generation projects during 1996-2001 to generate 1,200 MW of electricity.
This saved the State from power crisis from 2001 to 2006.
But the AIADMK did not invest on any such project 2001-06 five years. This hit the people badly when the DMK was back in power from 2006-2011.
Moreover Dmk govt attracted a lot of investments for setting up industries for generating new employment opportunities. But, there was no adequate electricity generation to support their needs and this resulted in severe power crisis.
From 2006 to 2011 DMK initiated a host of power projects such as the 600 MW plant at Rs. 3,136 in Ennore, the Rs. 2,475-crore 600 MW thermal power plant in North Chennai, the 800 MW plant at Udankudi at an investment of Rs. 8,362 crore, a 600 MW power plant in Mettur and 183 MW generation through cooperative sugar mills.
All the above projects were expected to be completed by 2013-15 and put an end to power crisis though Dmk were not in power.
